2014年10月22日 · A smoker could have an SpO2 of 98% and be complaining of shortness of breath. The PaO2 may also come back low. A co-oximeter might measure the SaO2 at 85% and 10 - 13% COHb. The patient could also have a low hemoglobin in combination with the COHb. I prefer to print out various calculations associated with the blood gas such as content and A-a.

2012年9月12日 · the reason your SpO2 was low was because your patient probably had low-level Methemoglobinemia which results in low readings. Whereas, high-level Methemoglobinemia would have resulted in a normal false SpO2 reading. Important Note**** this is a great example of how the SaO2 we get from our ABGs are not always accurate.

SpO2 noninvasive measure the % of saturated hemoglobin in the capillary bed and does not identify what is saturating the hemaglobin. ie: carboxyhemoglobin, methemoglobin, ect. Typically(in a healthy pt) SaO2 and SpO2 measure the same thing, but a difference can be found in patients with conditions such as CO poisoning and rhabdomyolysis.

2009年11月19日 · You don't mention his heart rate or blood pressure, but sounds like he's hypovolemic (dizzy when stands up). The SpO2 and Hct usually don't have much of a relationship. You can be 100% saturated even though your hct is 20%. But, the oxygen delivery to the tissues will be compromised since the oxygen carrying capacity is decreased.

Positioning and if the resident is able to be instructed in diaphragmatic breathing are usually 2 of my initial interventions with low SpO2. Just because someone is a CO2 retainer does not rule out ever administering high flow O2 via non-breather in an emergent situation.

2013年1月12日 · Yep like the others said, you were fine with the NRB but too low on your O's. Next time take a good look at the NRB and make sure the bag is filled, it won't hurt anything by having the O's up more than the pt may need because of the equipment you have. I would assume the pt still felt like they couldn't breathe with the O's that low.
