My honest FF16 review as a long-time fan of the franchise.
RPG elements are basically non-existent, with less customization than Final Fantasy 1. Items are extremely bland and boring, and are stat sticks with little compelling or interesting choices. You just put on the sword with the higher attack number and keep playing. No elemental resistances or weaknesses, no tradeoffs with weapons or armor, etc.

The Final Fantasy series is considered an "Anthology" series, and each game takes place in its own separate world, with its own characters and plot. Outside of a few references, easter eggs, and thematic similarities (like monster and summon designs), each game is unrelated to the others.

It was cool, and the boss fight was hard, but I didn't get that same awe for whatever reason. Then I went down a path of playing Palworld, Granblue Fantasy Relink, Helldivers 2, some Final Fantasy 14, and FF7 Rebirth. With the announcement of the new DLC having a final fantasy mode only boss, I decided to jump back in after Rebirth.
