Newbie - Which Dremel & Kit for Woodcarving?
I dind't buy my dremel for carving. i had it long ago for normal use. but i really like the extension shaft. i ended up using a hook and hanging it above my work area and leave the shaft sitting on the desk One last thing, after the research I did, it seem the professional carving tools like this have much higher RPMS than the dremel does.

Reciprocal chisel tools move a blade in and out very quickly when pressed against the wood and don't create the dust that burrs/bits/drums can cause. You can buy the handpieces that can be used with the flexshaft tools fairly inexpensively. The Automach is a single purpose tool, but it is very good at that purpose, and is a heavy duty tool.

I use it all the time, and recomend that ya buy some good blades such as olsons all pro, they last great and are really sharp.

One thing you didn't mention is what size of carvings your are making; a 6 inch tall carving will likely need a much different tool/burr than a 2 foot tall one. Likewise, carving a large piece of mesquite is likely to need different tool/burr combination than the same size piece of basswood.

Go to an online carving supplier like Wood Carving Tools - Wood Carving Supplies - Wood Carving Equipment - WoodCarversSupply.com or any other good site and order yourself some aggressive bits for hogging with. The Dremel won't take anything larger than a 1/8 bit so be careful what size you order.

2023年9月15日 · I use several different Dremel tool, have not seen one of these. It looks like it should work OK as it seems the "blade" actually turns with the tool. It may cut OK but if it only turns one direction that may be a difference in cuts.. As you may know Dremel is a great tool company and could answer that question for you. Good luck Chuck
