Ive read some of the earlier treatments of the script and it was close to going in that direction. But the creative team, Hamm, Burton, DeVito, Neil, everyone, they made this take something special. It was a great performance for what it was, no doubt, but the DeVito's Penguin doesn't carry the same aura as a Ledger/Nicholson Joker or Bale/Keaton Batman does in terms of being constantly compared.
