What we don't have from OP and nor did you ask is the span of the pergola that is planned. A properly secured post mounted in a concrete base for the load and span of structure will not budge (we aren't talking hurricane winds are we?).

2009年4月28日 · The post will not be in direct contact with moisture (except in winter) so it's rotting will be decreased. The problem with fence posts is that when in the ground they are always in contact with moisture, and from what I've read, it's just a matter of time before the moisture seeps through the layer of wood that's pressure treated to the part that is not.

My choices are - Lowes (Cheapest overall) - Home Depot (currently matched Lowes price) - Rona (Most Expensive but about 10% cheaper than HD or Lowes as I get 20% off Promo) I looked at each wood pieces and Rona seem to have the best wood quality.

2011年5月29日 · The wood was probably still wet when it was treated, now the moisture is "oozing" out bringing the treatment out with it. Pretty common with fence board, since it is fairly thin. Reply

Then again, there are many factors affecting the longevity of a 6x6 post: - type of wood (cedar, and types of cedar: western red cedar that is better vs easter white cedar that doesnt last as long, and pressure treated) - whether the post is near eavetrough water drainage: dry posts last longer

2023年5月31日 · I got some 4x4 steel brackets to build a pergola. Four post bases, and four corners. I'm going to get four 8' posts, and four 10' horizontal pieces. I've read on the forum that cedar is almost always preferred, that pressure treated is not meant to be in contact with your skin, etc. I've also read online that often PT is fine for pergolas.

2014年12月30日 · Pressure treated wood isn't really a woodworking material unless he is making something like outdoor furniture. Even if this is the case there are some less toxic types required for certain uses. I guess it doesn't matter what he is burning if it is creating an awful smell. Perhaps he is burning garbage, or old oil.
