I would presume that popping nails is an issue regardless of species, but I am concerned about strength and quality. Can anyone speak to using white pine as a framing lumber for a stick-built house?

2020年4月3日 · Welcome to the FF TommyT. Saw your white pine as soon as it hits the ground. You should try to get it sawn, stacked and stickered asap. Heat and humidity is not your friend when it comes to wp. Most sawmills around here will not accept wp May through September because the bugs get in it and blue stain sets in so quickly.

2010年9月4日 · White Pine is my most commonly sawn logs. If you saw the logs soon after the tree is cut you will have minimal pitch build-up. When you're sawing logs that have been down for a while, or standing dead and the bark is falling off, then you will have pitch build-up. If you have problems with pitch, put soap in your water lube jug.

2011年3月25日 · I work primarily with white pine. Both of the Dutch barns I'm restoring are almost all white pine, with the braces being oak. Timbers must be sized to the load and joinery. Dutch barns used very large timbers. These anchorbeams are 11"x22" and 11"x17", and most likely all four were from the same tree. What is the timber project?

The old white pine timbers just seem to get better with age. Problem with this line of reasoning is that there is very little old white pine left.

2021年5月5日 · Daburner87, I have sawn quite a bit of white pine that is very sappy. I use a mix of "on road" diesel and type "f" transmission fluid exclusively on my mill. I have solid steel wheels that aren't affected by the diesel. I have no problem with build up on bands or wheels. I also have not noticed any diesel smell in the lumber.
