Hi Power.....Anyone Like the Silver Chrome Model?
2015年9月25日 · The Silver Chrome is a nice gun. The one problem with a new, Hard Chrome gun is: it had better be JUST like you want it when received. You can't modify a HC gun without stripping and re- HC'ing it. Most of my range/carry guns are HC'd or at least have HC receivers. I modify them to my purpose and THEN send to have them HC'd.

The question is whether to go with hard chrome or a silver PVD. My 'smith is not a fan of hard chrome but will go with whatever I decide.

I'm fond of stainless (but this gun has a carbon steel frame) so I think I'm going to go silver on this one. I'm a little familiar with DLC but completely ignorant with HC.

I have never seen pics of a weapon that had the shiny colors that mimic the hard chrome or stainless steel. I was wondering how close they are to an actual brushed hard chrome finish like what used to be on the Browning Hi Power Silver Chrome model.

The other subtle difference is that DLC finish thickness is much more consistent across the pistol whereas chrome thickness tends to vary, especially in interior corners. Hard chrome application can lead to hydrogen embrittlement whereas IonBond is applied in a vacuum chamber.

2023年2月4日 · Silver DLC is CrN same stuff identical. Very rugged and durable corrosion resistant and lubricious. As far as as durable as hard chrome the CrN is 1800+ vickers hard and imo shows less rub type wear than hard chrome and is ideal for pistols that are already built tight. Adds no dimensional girth to speak of. 3-5 microns thick.

2021年12月8日 · Did Wilson ever do there armor tuff finish in a silver, almost like stainless. I’m looking at a Wilson ULC and it’s clearly not hard chrome and the owner says it’s there armor tuff or whatever they call there finish but the color is silver. The frame is obviously alloy on these guns and the frame and slide seem to match perfectly.

2021年1月21日 · I’d like some advice on an upcoming build. The finish options are black nitride or hard chrome. This build is meant to be all function over form, although I don’t think the form will be lacking much. If all things are equal, I’d rather have an all black 1911. But if hard chrome is the hands down better finish, then silver is fine.

2024年8月10日 · Chrome on an alloy frame would require a nickel treatment first. 1: Remove anodizing 2: Apply electroless nickel 3: Hard chrome I agree that this is like the one place where Ceracoat is a superior choice.

2024年8月11日 · This is a good-looking gun with polished flats that evoke hard chrome (if anyone knows what the silver finish is, please post). The fit and finish are first rate. Its picking nits to call one of these guns better than the other on this factor, but I will say the Hayes seems to be a bit more solid in the slide/frame fitment.
