It would take a bit over 4 inches to give you an R30. yep, per your link: a 4 1/2 inch thick board with an R30. Might want to check on the price of that stuff, Not going to be cheap

2017年5月7日 · Hey I need to put r-30 insulation in a ceiling framed with 2x8's regular fiberglass insulation requires 9" of space (2x10 framing). I have looked into spray foam which is pricey for 330sq ft it is $3,000 and rigid board at 4.5in (r-30 value) is $1,500 for the space.

And while the insulation can impact the dew point within an assembly, the real ticket is preventing moisture from entering that assembly to begin with. As a fail safe, measures should be taken to allow that assembly to dry should it become wet.

If you are furring out the 2x12, and for some reason you still don't like the cheap, lightweight, easily stapled styrofoam oe plastic baffles, you can instead use rigid board held off the sheathing to create an air vent and contribute to R value.

2018年1月30日 · Been awhile but if I were building today I would be using Roxul. For your 2x12's (11.25") I would probably use 5.5" plus 3.5" plus 1" rigid. That would be r-23 plus r-15 plus r-5. I would rip 1" rigid to give me 1.25" strips for the edges to space the air gap. Insulation and then a vapor barrier depending upon what is required/desired.

Sure my heating bill is probably a bit higher, but the 'insulation police' haven't shown up at my door to tell me I have to change it. The house didn't even have have that much insulation in some parts of the roof system when I bought the house.
