2023年1月28日 · The NVR needs to be able to transcode these on-the-fly to perhaps 1080p 24fps, with a codec that is supported by most browsers (VP-9, VP-8, AV1, or H264). Also ideally I would like it to be able to alert me to motion events or object detection and record to a disk, perhaps 1 month of footage if possible.

2022年1月25日 · It aligns more with Free software as defined by FSF, originally open source was just meant to mean source available. But then when people started associating free with free as in beer instead of free as in freedom, there's been a shift to changing the meaning of open source.

Microsoft commits more to the Linux kernel than SUSE does iirc. Not to mention contributing huge amounts in other areas of Linux, Kubernetes and various other oss projects. Not to mention providing free git hosting to the majority of open source projects out there via GitHub. Apple sure. But I wouldn’t say Microsoft don’t give back.

The ones I'm looking at are Shinobi, Frigate, Viseron, ZoneMinder and MotionEyeOS. I'm looking to host on a RPi 3b+ They all seem to claim to do similar things.

There are a bunch of components to an NVR system, like motion detection, recording, archiving, UI, system monitoring, searching records, et cetera. But most of these aren't really issues specific to an NVR system, and there are powerful open source solutions for them individually (e.g Prometheus and Grafana for system monitoring).

I am looking at the docs, but I don't understand what is the difference between the Pro and free version of the product. Is the free version just an outdated (Community Edition) which is no longer maintained?

2022年12月29日 · When I was away from home and wanted to view my cameras or recordings on mobile, I just fired up OpenVPN (though I'd go with WireGuard these days) and the Reolink app for Android worked like a charm. The NVR came in a kit with my cameras and cost around $1400 altogether (16 x 1440p cameras plus 16 port PoE NVR).

2023年10月3日 · I'm genuinely curious how you arrived at the conclusion that Frigate is adware. It's fully open source, 100% of the analysis runs locally, and it even works without an internet connection. Frigate+ is a totally optional companion service with the intention of being similar to the home assistant cloud offering.
