2020年8月11日 · The wood is hard then and most times if you need it the top half or 2/3 of the tree will be ready to burn right after cutting. In addition,lots of that elm can even be split by hand. It is a great burning firewood.

2009年3月1日 · You made a good point though, because people would often use the wood they had on their land, and I don't think soft maple will be any worse than any other type of wood, if cared for properly. I would suggest: 1) keep the sills off the ground, raise the foundation at least 1 1/2' - 2', so that the water doesn't splash up on and rot the bottom logs.

2020年3月31日 · Clear straight sugar maple stem does split easy. Crotches and knots add some difficulty but split without noodling. Gnarl or spiral grain sugar maple would still be easier than elm but tougher still. Sugar maple is my favorite wood since it dries faster than oak and burns HOT. Oak etc. coal better than sugar maple.

It dries fast and when split into say, 1" strips it is excellent because it lights super quick and easy and burns hot to start the larger pieces of wood. 2020年9月27日 · Scored a fairly large Bloodgood Maple from my dad. Probably a little less than half a cord but for the life of me I can't find anything to tell me how dense this wood is. I know its ornamental so that kills a lot of info but this stuff is heavy even when its dry (standing dead).

2015年3月12日 · Only challenge I hear is tree diameter. Everyone else on wood value/quality is right on. But 36inch diameter pieces of green silver maple could weigh 200plus pounds a piece even cut 15inches. Not sure of the gear or splitter you have, but that size will definitely require some gear or very,very good friends.

2023年6月2日 · The last silver maple I got a couple years ago was a huge open grown yard tree and near impossible to split the trunk wood by hand. Some of the branch wood was decent/straight though. If not for hydraulics I would’ve left it curbside where I found it.

2014年1月7日 · I cut a willow tree I got seven cords of wood from it. The only problem it smelled like the swamp was burning. I was burning it around 11 pm through the night. I let it dry for three years too. Maple is ok. I mix it with oak, hickory. I set the stove damper and pipe damper by the temp gauges. Not to waste wood burn time.
