2010年5月9日 · As far as I can see, the problem with the phrase 'a pair of glasses' is that the logic of subject verb concord does not meet the logic of personal pronoun substitute. There is a pair of glasses on the table. But: I have a pair of glasses for my poor eyesight. I wear them every day. (as Loob has pointed out). That said, two questions follow:

2010年2月21日 · 'Glasses', 'sunglasses', 'binoculars' and so on are strictly plural nouns and always take plural verbs. What is unusual about them is that they have no singular: there is no such thing as *'a sunglass' or *'a binocular', and *'a glass' means something completely different.
