If an image is 640x480 pixels in 4:3, what is the output in 16:9?
2006年11月17日 · Similarly, if configured correctly, then will pillarbox within a 16:9 frame so the image proportions are retained. Will it be 640 x 480 - probably not, because those dimensions don't mean anything coming out of a DVD player. Will the image look correct ? If the player is any good, yes. I know that is how my player handles files like this.

2021年3月22日 · No 640x480 there. To get that, these knock-off, non-compliant cards are squeezing (aka rescaling down) the image to fit a 640x480 frame. Just because it thinks that's what some/most consumers might want. But it DOES lose quality in the conversion, not even counting lossy compression. Mp4 will accept 640 or 704 or 720 (x 480) so no surprise.

2008年1月8日 · The 720x480 videos are probably 4:3 DAR (display aspect ratio) with non-square pixels. The 640x480 video is probably 4:3 DAR with square pixels. The proper way to convert a square pixel 640x480 image to 720x480 4:3 DAR is to stretch the picture to 704x480 then add 8 pixels of black to the left and right borders.

2022年2月22日 · The analog to digital spec determined that the width of an image was 720 pixels with the active picture at 704 (some will argue 702) pixels. But I believe, as in the case of PAL, that 704 was adopted for dvd. You do not appreciate the borders since they merge with others esp when viewed on wider screens.

2009年11月18日 · When PAR information is included the program should scale the image to compensate for the non-square pixels. A 720x480 4:3 DAR video should be displayed as 640x480 (or some other 4:3 frame size) on the screen; or with 16:9 DAR as ~853x480. But many programs do not pay any attention to the PAR/DAR flags and continue to assume square pixels.

2011年11月4日 · I have captured some VHS at 640x480 resolution(my capturing software calls this "full size"), uncompressed in a .mov container, and then encoded it to H.264/AAC with a .mp4 container with Quicktime, and then burned it to DVD. On a CRT TV, as well as on a smaller HDTV, it looks fine, but on a bigger 50+ inch HDTV, it looks somewhat stretched.
