Alberta Premier Danielle Smith says the province is putting $29 million toward creating a new sheriff patrol unit to shore up security at the Canada-United States border. The unit is to be supported by about 50 armed sheriffs,

The province introduced the Interdiction Patrol Team as a way to bolster security and crack down on people found to be illegally attempting to cross the border or traffic weapons or drugs.
