"The Democrats know reimbursements of past fees would destroy the fiscal stability of the County," legislature Presiding Officer Howard Kopel (R-Lawrence) wrote in a statement. "The only way to do so would be to significantly raise taxes of all Nassau County residents and reduce services. That is reckless and irresponsible."

Nassau County Democrats proposed legislation that would allow people to get a refund if they paid unconstitutional fees on red-light camera tickets.

For years, red light camera fees have been a source of frustration for drivers in Nassau County, with many calling the charges excessive and unfair. Now, lawmakers are proposing legislation to address these concerns.
