The Huawei Mate 70 chip is not what you think. A recent teardown has revealed it's not a 5nm chip that was rumored.

The findings contradict enthusiasm on Chinese social media, where users claimed the new Kirin 9020 had a performance boost of 30 per cent.

According to TechInsights, which analyzed the Mate 70 Pro’s processor, the phone has a HiSilicon Kirin 9020 instead of the Kirin 9100 chipset they expected. Why Huawei stuck with the 7nm process instead of moving to a 5nm process is an open question.

The newly introduced Mate 70 Pro Plus phone runs on a processor built with the same 7-nanometer technology used in its Mate 60 Pro last year, according to a teardown of the device by researchers at TechInsights. The chip, Kirin 9020, is designed by Huawei and once again produced by Shanghai’s Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp.
