The festive special sees Ncuti Gatwa reprise his role as the Fifteenth Doctor, being joined by Nicola Coughlan as new character Joy. Former Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat returns to pen the episode, which follows a hotel chain that has got hold of the ability to time travel.

Nicola Coughlan has said she did not know what was going on in the Doctor Who Christmas Special. Speaking on The Graham Norton Show, the Derry Girls star said: "I can't tell you anything, not because of secrecy but because I had no idea what was going on."

After an explosive first season as the fifteenth Doctor, Ncuti Gatwa will return for a one-off festive special in 2024 before his second full outing. The Doctor Who Christmas Special was brought back last year and was Ncuti’s first adventure with Ruby Sunday.
